はじめに
Introduction
サウジアラビアの工業都市は、それらを管轄する政府機関によって次に上げる三つに分けられます。
・サウジアラビア工業都市・技術地帯庁傘下の工業都市(Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones) (MODON)
・ジュバイルおよびヤンブー王立委員会傘下の工業都市(Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu)
・その他の工業都市
Saudi Arabia’s industrial cities are divided into three categories based on the government agency that oversees them:
- Industrial Cities under Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones
(MODON) - Industrial Cities under Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu
- Other Industrial Cities
その他の工業都市(Other Industrial Cities)の中で私企業が管轄しているとされていますが、特にリヤード首都圏やダンマーン都市圏の工業都市は、多くが詳細不明です。それらは、サウジアラビア工業都市・技術地帯庁(Saudi Arabian Industrial Cities and Technological Zones Authority)傘下の工業都市に多かれ少なかれ、既に組み込まれていると筆者には思えます。
Other industrial cities are said to be managed by private companies, but many of their details are unclear, especially in Riyadh Metropolitan Area and Dammam Metropolitan Area. The writer believes that they have already been incorporated, more or less, into industrial cities under “Saudi Arabian Industrial Cities and Technological Zones Authority”.

この章では、サウジアラビア産業鉱物資源省およびジュバイルおよびヤンブー王立委員会が管轄あるいは広報している工業都市を中心述べています。さらにサウジアラビアの軍事産業および都市圏工業都市についても述べていますが、サウジアラムコの超巨大な石油・ガス生産処理貯蔵搬出施設およびサウジ全土に大規模に展開されている海水蒸留造水施設や発電施設に関しては触れていません。
This chapter focuses on the industrial cities governed or promoted by Saudi Arabian Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources or Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. Additionally, it highlights Saudi Arabian Military Industries and Metro Industries. Nevertheless, it does not address Saudi Aramco’s huge oil and gas production, handling, storage, and loading facilities, nor the extensive seawater distillation and power generation facilities distributed across the country.
サウジアラムコの施設については、第50章および第51章を中心にこれまでに既に述べていますので適宜参照して下さい。また、造水・発電に関しては次の第54章で説明して行きます。
Saudi Aramco’s facilities have already been described in Chapters 50 and 51, so please refer to them as necessary. In addition, water production and power generation will be explained in the next Chapter 54.
